Summer camp faq

Who are the camps for?

Our camps are designed for children in primary and lower secondary school (approximately ages 6–12).

Please note that we may have to decline participation for children who are significantly older or younger than the target age range to ensure well-balanced groups. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us or include a note in your registration.

Are the camps suitable for children with NPF or other special needs?

Our goal is to create a camp where all children can have fun and feel safe – including those who need extra support. Our staff undergo basic training in how to meet the needs of children with neuropsychiatric conditions (NPF), but the more we know about your child in advance, the better we can support them.

In the registration form, there’s space to share any important information about your child. Please be as detailed as possible – for example, if your child benefits from a clear daily schedule, shorter group sessions, or needs help keeping track of time. If your child requires more extensive adjustments, we encourage you to call us before registering so we can discuss possible solutions.

Does my child need to be able to swim?

Both our outdoor camps and MTB camps include water-based activities, such as swimming or paddling.
If your child cannot swim 200 meters without assistance, it is your responsibility as guardian to send them with suitable flotation aids. Our instructors may decide that a child cannot safely participate in certain activities, in which case they will sit out. We do our best to adapt activities based on swimming ability and provide life vests for required activities.

All staff receive training in basic water safety.

Cancellations and illness

What if my child gets sick and can’t attend the camp?
If your child becomes ill, please notify the camp manager as soon as possible via phone or SMS.
We will also call home if a child is absent without notice. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds for sick days during the camp week.

Camp groups and staff

How are the groups organized?
We form groups based on the children’s ages and chosen camp type, to ensure balanced and fun groups. We may occasionally need to adjust groups or activities to improve the experience for all participants – the main goal is always to create a fun, safe and inclusive camp.

How large are the groups?
Each group includes around 12 children.

How many leaders are there?
Every group has three leaders who stay with the children all week. One of them is a designated lead responsible for the group. In addition, there is always a camp coordinator on site overseeing all groups and activities.

Safety and security

Safety is a top priority for us. All camp staff attend a mandatory training program before the summer begins. Topics include:

  • Water and swimming safety

  • Basic first aid

  • Fire safety

  • Inclusion, respect, and anti-bullying practices

  • Crisis management and clear routines

We work from well-established guidelines to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

Is my child insured?

Yes, Aktivt Uteliv provides insurance coverage for all registered camp participants.
